Q. What is the difference between Grade 1 and Grade 2?
A. Grade 1 and Grade 2 refer to BHMA standards. The difference will depend on what type of product you are referring to. For strikes, BHMA defines grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3 criteria. A grade 1 strike must be able to meet a minimum of 1500 lbf static strength, 70 ft lb dynamic strength, and exceed 500 000 cycles. A grade 2 strike must be able to meet a minimum of 1000 lbf static strength, 50 ft lb dynamic strength, and exceed 400 000 cycles. And finally, a grade 3 strike must be able to meet a minimum of 500 lbf static strength, 33 ft lb dynamic strength, and exceed 400 000 cycles.
